After a long day at school is your teen is hungry? Is there frustration when it comes to having meals available for your teens, with your busy schedule? Do you want them to eat healthier and not eat out all the time? This class will enable your teen to take control of the situation! Teens from 13 to 18 years old will love this fun and engaging cooking course by empowering them to take charge of what they eat on a daily and weekly basis. We provide access to instruction that will support teens in the kitchen, helping to build cooking skills to promote their independence and confidence that goes beyond just using a microwave. This course will be comprised of three 2-hour classes. Students will learn how to prepare a selection of common ingredients, building preparation skills for easy and delicious results, with repeatable recipes. Teens will familiarize themselves with using specific, practical, and standard kitchen equipment, as well as practicing simple cleaning techniques. This is a 3 class course ($25 value per class), meeting on two Wednesdays and one Friday Online, from their own home kitchen. Each class will cover 2 recipes that will enable you to understand different cooking methods and common ingredients that are essential to well balanced meals. Students will also engage some of their extra skills (that you never knew were important for cooking!), such as math (yes, math!), hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills, figuring out how to save money by “bulk meal” preparation and most importantly creating balanced meals. Class 1: Together we will make 2 breakfast recipes. Teens will learn to use a knife (how to be safe!), learn to use the oven safely, learn how to refrigerate things properly, and practice cleaning and basic sanitation. Class 2: Together we will make 2 recipes (1 for lunch and 1 for dinner meals). Teens will practice all the skills from the first class. Plus lean to work safely with the stove top. Class 3: Together we will make 2 recipes (1 for lunch and 1 for dinner meals). Teens will practice all the skills from the first class. Teens will learn about the two-part cooking processes and learn how to create new meals with leftovers. Through this exciting course, students will grow in confidence and on the way to becoming competent cooks! Signing up for this course means a student is signed up for all 3 classes purchased at registration. This course runs Saturdays: July 6, 13, 15. This course is runs every 1-2 months.
